About the Adopt-A-Shoreline Program
Having run more than 14 consecutive years, the Adopt-A-Shoreline program is a Dallas Park and Recreation Department program administered by For the Love of the Lake (FTLOTL). It is perfect for the civic-minded business, non-profit group, school, church, or local organization that is ready to take their love of the lake one step further!
In the AAS program, a group agrees to adopt a small portion of the shoreline or park and keep it litter-free. Each Second Saturday Shoreline Spruce-Up, at least six folks from the group must participate in cleaning up their adopted area. We ask that all participants sign in at the FTLOTL office each month, as we do all volunteers.
Group leaders are required to attend an AAS half-day workshop each February, where we review the state of the program, swap AAS stories, coach the leaders about how to keep their groups motivated, and review safety guidelines.

Congratulations to the Whole Earth Provision Company AAS Group of the Year in 2009!
Once a year, on a Friday in October, we hold an AAS Appreciation Luncheon, where our city officials and Park Board meet with us, and we award an AAS Group of the Year!
An AAS sign from the city is proudly displayed in each adopted area, identifying a group that has really taken their love of the lake to heart!
There are now over 45 organizations active in the Adopt-A-Shoreline program. They run the gamut, and include church groups, scout groups, Democrats, Republicans, area companies, clubs, and environmental groups (see the list here)! Every second Saturday, they are united in a common cause– to make our lake a better place!
