Congratulations to Volunteers of the Year for 2013 Barbara Maimbourg and Tommy Masterson. Both Barbara and Tommy have volunteered many hours over the years and we are so grateful for their love of White Rock Lake. Tommy has been with For the Love of the Lake since the early years and provided unlimited support and work on projects such as The Celebration Tree Grove, Second Saturday Shoreline Spruce Up, and the Adopt-A-Shoreline program. Tommy has also been our go-to guy when we needed help with office improvements and most recently worked closely with Doug Frazier to give our office a much needed face-lift. As our outgoing Vice President, Tommy is a trusted advisor.
Barbara has been a tireless volunteer whose positive attitude is an inspiration to all who know her. Barbara has helped behind the scenes on many events like the Celebration Tree Grove picnics, the Volunteer Appreciation picnics, and other public events as well as providing office support and working at Second Saturday and Every Saturday to ensure all of our volunteers had all they needed. Barbara was one of the first to join the Texas Stream Team water monitoring program and one of the first volunteers to become certified to test for e-coli.
Although Barbara and Tommy are stepping down from board positions, that doesn't mean you won't see them around the office and around White Rock Lake. When you do, please say thanks for all you have done!
Please help us keep up with our reach-it tools. These tools are generously donated by FTLOTL sponsors like Lowe's and Home Depot. However, our supply is dwindling and we asking for help to replace those that are lost or broken. Please consider donating a few dollars so that everyone has the tools they need to keep White Rock Lake Park clean.
Help is still needed to support reforestation efforts. The next tree planting event is scheduled for November 2014 and volunteers are needed for site preparation and removal of invasive plants. Dates for site prep coincide with Second Saturday Shoreline Spruce Up: March 8, and April 12. Meet at the Big Thicket at 8:30 a.m. to help. We are using VolunteerSpot to organize the upcoming Trees Please! events. To sign up:
Our next Secondary Saturday Shoreline Spruce Up is on Saturday, March 8.
For the Love of the Lake volunteers and Rocky are marching in the Greenville Avenue St. Patrick's Day parade on Saturday, March 15. Ask us how you can join in!
